F.A.Q.

Yes, you should know your basic music rudiments.

  • Basic pitch and rhythmic notation
  • Meters
  • Key signatures
  • Scales
  • Intervals
  • Triad construction

I also recommend being able to play keyboard at a beginner level at least to start, including some sight-reading ability.

A level 2-3 for piano is perfectly fine to get started as you will develop through my lessons as well.

And that’s it!

Yes, but only a beginner’s level is needed if you start with the first courses, as they are created for beginners, and they are designed to get you to develop your musicianship (reading, writing and ear) as you go through the lessons and courses!

My composition course offers one-on-one live lessons through Zoom, which are recorded for your reference. You will also receive written lessons in the form of professional PDF files. Additionally, there will be weekly composition assignments with personalized feedback from me.

The duration of the course depends on how many lessons you take per week. For example, if you take one lesson per week, it would take around 2 years to complete the course.

Yes of course! However, I strongly encourage you to use and learn the keyboard. You don’t have to be great at it. The keyboard is really the composer’s best instrument, after the ear that is. You have the entire range of the orchestra at your fingertips.

So, I encourage you, as you would in any university setting, to use the keyboard. If you are very limited in skills that’s OK because the beginner lessons are meant to progress not just with the theory presented, but also in terms of sight-reading, writing and ear training.

Solid musicianship is crucial to a good composer.

Yes, you can, and I’m happy to offer you the option of paying the tuition in installments. This way, you can focus on taking the course and let me worry about the financial aspect.
