Note

A Story to Tell was written while the composer was still living in Gaza. The writer’s goal was to create a poignant and evocative composition that will serve as a haunting testament to the indomitable human spirit during times of adversity. Created during the 11-day conflict in Gaza City in May 2021, this composition is a deeply personal and emotional journey that reflects the lived experiences of its composer and his family amidst the turmoil of war.

The work is scored for strings, paired woodwinds, with Glockenspiel and Timpani, allowing each instrument to contribute its own unique voice to the narrative. Each section of the piece encapsulates a different facet of the wartime experience, ranging from moments of fear and uncertainty to glimpses of hope and resilience.

The composer hopes that the listener will be transported into the heart of a community facing unimaginable challenges. The strings weave together a tapestry of emotions, mirroring the ebb and flow of daily life under the shadow of conflict. The woodwinds provide moments of contemplation and introspection, allowing us to reflect on the profound human connections that endure even in the harshest of circumstances. The percussion, at times thunderous and at times delicate, underscore the persistence and determination of the people in the face of adversity.

For the composer, this composition is more than just music; it is a profound and heartfelt expression of the human experience during times of war. It invites the listener to bear witness to the resilience, courage, and hope that can emerge even in the darkest of hours. A Story to Tell is a tribute to the unwavering strength of the human spirit and a reminder that, in the face of adversity, art can serve as a beacon of light and a source of solace.
